Fresh air. That's what she told the others when they asked why she wanted to take their shifts keeping guard on the perimeter of the camp for the last three days. She wanted fresh air, her energy was building and she didn't sleep much anyway. Haylie was fairly certain that they didn't quite believe that was the reason for it, but it got her as far away from everyone as possible for this long without interruption. One of the younger kids brought Haylie food every mealtime and left her be without question.

She hadn't so much as bothered to speak to Roy since he made it perfectly clear that the eight years they'd spent together meant nothing to him and that he wouldn't let her in. It was as if he'd stabbed her in the chest with his knife, twisted it, and broke off the handle so she'd never be able to pull it out. And for three days, she'd been thinking. Re-evaluating. Contemplating. Call it whatever.

Yawning, she blinked a few times as the weight of it all came crashing down on her and she was so exhausted that she couldn't even sit up. In a matter of five minutes, she'd fallen over on the ground and completely passed out. She was just too damn tired.
